These paintings are all done on large pieces of cardboard that I then added textures to, like hessian, cotton scrim, scrunched card and tissue paper. This not only added some interesting technical challenges when it came to painting on them, particularly hessian as a heavier texture, but also adds something to the black negative space, drawing the eye into the details more, taking it beyond the tonality of the painting.
